Event Description:
The Charleston Symphony Orchestra season begins on a dramatic note with compositions about fate and the heavens, with Gustav Holst’s popular orchestral suite - the Planets, with its seven unique movements and large orchestra. The music of Holst lures audiences in, from the striking opening of Mars, “The Bringer of War” to the joyful sounds of Jupiter, “The Bringer of Jollity,” and finally to the hypnotic women’s chorus in the final movement, Neptune, “The Mystic.” The CSO Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Robert Taylor, will be featured on Johannes Brahms’ Schicksalslied (Song of Destiny). Giuseppe Verdi’s Overture to the opera The Force of Destiny (La Forza del destino) opens the concert.
