Philosophy Colloquium: The Ethics of Arguing
Start Date: 11/3/2009Start Time: 3:15 PM
End Date: 11/3/2009End Time: 4:45 PM
Event Description
Are there ethical principles for arguing with others? Are there limits or restrictions on what we can or should say? In particular, do our arguments have to be sincere? Do we have to mean what we say? Is there anything wrong with basing our arguments on what other people believe? To answer some of these questions, I will compare the ethics of arguing as it applies to lawyers, judges, and to the rest of us as citizens in a democratic society.
